Have you ever wanted to live in a converted schoolhouse? A loft? How about both?!
**Artful, professional living**
Live in a 1,000+ sq. ft. loft that began its architectural life as a 1920s brick schoolhouse. The Jerome Park School was converted to condos in 2007. Owner is a WVU professor who lived in this unit for two years before buying a house.
Loft is perfect for reflection, in-home art studio, or just easy living that can comfortably be made into a two-bedroom-area unit, if needed, while also providing full living room and dining room spaces plus separate and spacious rooms for bath and in-unit laundry.
Original hardwood floors in excellent shape throughout; tile in the kitchen, bath, and laundry; and huge windows that run the length of loft on east side of building. Corner unit with wooded and city views from large windows on the south side of building.
Spacious, private bathroom with two large windows, large vanity, bright lights, deep-silled windows (a cat haven, if desired), ceiling vent, and extra-wide walk-in shower with seats and multi-function shower head. Unit also features a closeted furnace room off bath with lots of storage and full-length mirror on door as well as in-unit washer/dryer in windowed 10×10′ laundry room off kitchen that can double as walk-in closet.
This is a perfect unit for one person or a couple. Owner is gay-friendly. Condo can also accommodate two unrelated people who are not a couple, but both must sign a single lease, go through background/credit checks, and pay rent together.
**All Utilities Included**
Water, gas, electricity, garbage, and heat/central air conditioning with unit-controlled thermostat for furnace. Dishwasher and washer/dryer included. Ceiling fans and plenty of grounded electrical outlets throughout.
Cable/wifi is NOT included. But this is the only additional bill you will have to pay. The unit is already set up for Comcast billing. DirectTV not allowed due to condo restrictions on placement of dishes. (I haven’t tried Frontier over there yet.)
**Partially Furnished** – Negotiable.
Includes newer IKEA furnishings in bedroom, study, kitchen, and bath, including some dishes, small appliances, and linens. If you don’t need any of the existing furnishings, I can arrange to remove those. Rent price does not drop with their removal.
Area rugs are provided and are required, if you would rather furnish your own.
Additional furnishings, housekeeping, and cable negotiable with long-term (1 year+) rentals at additional cost.
Jerome Park Lofts is situated next to the lovely green space of Jerome Park, upgraded in 2016 by the city to include covered picnic areas, basketball court (you can’t hear it from the apt.), and children’s play area. A block away is Decker’s Creek, rail trail, and Marilla Park with public pool and other amenities.
Avoid traffic jams!
- 1 block from multiple bus routes (free for WVU students and employees).
- 1 mile from I-68 Sabraton exit.
- 3 minutes to MGW airport (no flyovers!).
- 5-minute drive to WVU downtown campus!
- 7 minutes to Suncrest.
- 8 minutes to football stadium (no game noise!)
- 10-15 minutes to Evansdale campus.
Jerome Park Lofts is located on a wooded ridge that lends to privacy and seclusion of the quiet neighborhood, while retaining an in-town accessibility. The second-floor unit is accessible from first- and second-floor entrances. First-floor/back entrance has stairs. Second-floor/front entrance is relatively flat but NOT wheelchair accessible (there are three steps down a long asphalt walkway). Parking is available at both entrances for one vehicle. Second vehicle adds $25/month to rent. Free, on-street parking is available nearby.
- Subletting not allowed.
- Pets negotiable with an additional, reasonable, one-time deposit. (I require a meeting with dog owners and their dogs, and references from current neighbors re barking.)
- Rent must be paid via online payments through cozy.co.
- Due to HOA rules, the unit cannot be the primary location of a commercial/home business, although certainly telecommuting/working from home is OK.
- Security deposit equivalent to one month’s rent required at lease signing, paid through cozy.co.

Owner lives in town but travels frequently for work (and is sometimes unreachable), so high-need tenants may not find this a suitable living situation. When in town, I am quick to respond.
An open house will be held (tbd; early to mid-April) where a link to an online application system will be provided via cozy.co. There is an application fee ($40). Background checks, credit checks, and reference checks required.
